Garden Features

Just as an indoor living space benefits from pictures on walls and decorations, a statue or a bench will enhance the look of a garden. Finding effective placement for our garden features could be fun, but it also could be quite a challenge. Considering the style of the garden and keeping features in mind from the beginning of the designing process will help to achieve the desired effect.

The selection of garden features is incredibly large. Just adding a few to give the design an extra touch instead of overloading the site with extensive ornaments will help to create balance between plants and features.

Functional features are the once you want to start with. If you have a nice spot in your garden in the partial shade from where you can view some particularly attractive parts of your site, you might decide that it is the right spot for a bench. If your bench is visible from your windows, entrance or pathway, it will become an effective focal point as well. Trellises, pergolas and arches could be elegant additions, especially because they become partly covered with climbing plants. Planters come in various shapes and sizes. They can complement almost any site from a small balcony to large properties. The key to achieving the desired effect is to choose the right size of the pot to keep in proportion with the rest of the garden. Groupings of pots are very popular and effective. Combining a group of pots with a water feature is quite a creative way to introduce water to your landscape especially in space-limited sites. Turning one of the large clay pots into a mini- pond might be just the right way to introduce water sounds to your patio.

Selecting the right birdbath, sundial, lantern or a statue could give your garden the final touch. Those items are ideal for creating focal points. You can place them to be visible from a spot from where you most likely view your garden.

Let’s keep in mind that the garden is a place that inspires calms soothes our senses. People come out of the garden with a different attitude.
