TLC for your Formal Hedge
The most important role of a hedge is to provide privacy.
However, hedges also create amazing backdrop to perennial
borders, shrub borders or rose gardens. It takes years to
grow a hedge, but in only a couple of seasons, a hedge can
become difficult to manage.

Regular trimming is the key to keeping a formal hedge looking
sharp. When you are shaping the hedge, keep the base wider
than the top.

This will prevent die back at the base and will
keep the whole plant exposed to light and moisture. Frequent
trimming, at least three times in one growing season, will
keep your hedge looking tidy and healthy. Hedges need as much
water as much as the rest of your garden especially during
hot summers. Spraying water on the hedge occasionally will
help to keep it healthy and capable of absorbing moisture
thought its foliage. Fertilize in spring with organic fertilizer
high in nitrogen to encourage growth.
With a little bit of proper care, a well-trimmed
hedge will add visual appeal to your yard, offer privacy and
keep your town green.
